Banks

Bank of Scotland

43 Comely Bank, Edinburgh EH4 1AF, UK – 0131 456 8501

Standard banking facility, staff are friendly but it can be quiet busy especially during peak times. Cash machine just inside and a deposit machine near the desks for convenience. Car park can be full especially at school times.

The car park is a nightmare to use when Mums and Dads are picking up their Brats

Royal Bank of Scotland

239 St John's Rd, Edinburgh EH12 7XA, UK – 0345 724 2424

Its most builtful, despite its used scammers to robe indviduels and I want you to give me their telephone number

This is a wonderfully decorated branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland. When you walk through the door you are immediately made to feel at home by the friendly, verdant staff.

Bank of Scotland

206 St John's Rd, Edinburgh EH12 8SH, UK – 0131 465 2511

Excellent staff, so professional and friendly that I would like to visit more often the branch :-)

Excellent staff, loses a star just for car parking facilities.

Local Chambers of Commerce for EH12 5ST with contact details and location maps. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. What you put in is exactly what you get out.
Edinburgh Council Fleet Services and MOT

38 Russell Rd, Edinburgh EH11 2LP, UK – 0131 337 2307

No fuss, and really straight forward gents.

No trouble mot for our 14 year old car, they even changed an indicator bulb that was on its way out for free. Will be going back next year.

Drumbrae Library Hub

81 Drum Brae Drive, Edinburgh EH4 7FE, UK – 0131 529 5244

This recently built, modern library has everything you need in a local community. You can order books from any Edinburgh library using the app and pick them up and drop them off here. They also have a nice quiet area for reading or studying as well as computers for kids and a toddler singing group. The staff seem to deal with the local teenagers well and it's a nice place to drop into to pick up a new book to read. I think they also serve coffee but I've never tried it.

It's exactly what the area needed,it's a very large open plan area down stairs, with places for reading/quite spots etc, upstairs has quiet areas to study/read/work and an adult computer room with 12 computers in it, excellent for mums with tots and kids in school, helps them communicate with each other and has a nice pleasant vibe, lots of diffrent things going on/groups etc. A big plus is they've took our kids offf the streets and gave them a place to hang out with friends(better than Them hanging around) bored) by providing a huge range of computers/ps3/xbox360/Wii games with a large amount of TVs to use with them and the staff are great with our local youngsters and are a good influence on them, having built up a excellent rapore with most of them. There's public access for all ages/ library/housing/coffee shop/food bank to name but a few services,in my eyes this was money very well spent, well done all off the team@drumbraehub

Community Recycling Centre

Bankhead Ave, Edinburgh EH11 4EA, UK – 0131 529 3030

Mixed review for me. Positive: On one of my visits, there were three guys standing chatting. I was wary of interrupting them however when I asked one of the guys for assistance as I had a heavy tv unit in my car to dispose of, I was helped with no problem at all thankfully. Negatives: On one occasion I arrived with a full car and the tip was closed as it was "too windy" despite having been before and since on windy days and it was open. Fair enough if it was a gale but this is Scotland, it's windy most of the time and on this particular day the wind wasn't particularly bad in my opinion, it was worse on my most recent visit and it was open. Second negative: Unaware of the "no admittance after 7:20 pm" rule, I arrived at the site one evening at 7:17pm and the gates were already closed and the guys were already most of the way up the park. There was a lady in front of me too and she arrived five minutes before I did and it was closed already then.To have to the gates locked up and for the guys to have walked the length of the tip from the gate to almost the top of the site by the time I arrived at the gates, they must have closed between ten past and quarter past 7. The lady in front of me was adamant she was there just before quarter past and it was already closed. You should not be locking the gates until 20 past as your sign states we can come in up to 20 past. As the other poster here said, it's no wonder some people fly tip when things like this happen. Make sure you arrive before 7pm if you want to be sure you can get in (weekends excluded obviously as it closes earlier). Thanks

Dental Surgeries

Gorgie Road Dental Practice

296/, 1 Gorgie Rd, Edinburgh EH11 2PP, UK – 0131 337 3936

Really good service.

Craiglockhart Dental Practice

132 Colinton Rd, Edinburgh EH14 1BY, UK – 0131 443 4050

I can not recommend this practice enough! I recently joined as I required some urgent dental work but I was also interested in the teeth whitening treatments as well as getting my front crown replaced (as I always felt my last crown didn't quite match my other front tooth in colour or shape). I found the service here excellent and the staff were all so friendly. I was amazed at the results and everyone who knows me comments on how great my teeth look!!

Staff very friendly and helpful, and I was seen as soon as my appointment was due. No undue pressure to undertake unnecessarily expensive treatments, but instead a professional and first class scale and polish - and all on NHS. I was with a private practice for years and there is absolutely no discernable difference in the quality of care...except there's no wallet-paralysing bill at the end. Cannot believe that everyone eligible doesn't take advantage of this excellent service.

St Johns Road Dental Practice

176-178 St John's Rd, Edinburgh EH12 8BE, UK – 0131 334 2704

Great practice. We see Alan and Alison who look after us and our two boys really well - lovely dentists and kids look forward to seeing them!

The only quality dentist there is Alan Stewart. Best dentist I have ever been to in my life, the rest of them are talented but useless with anaesthetic and listening to patients.

Western General Hospital

Crewe Rd S, Edinburgh EH4 2XU, UK – 0131 537 1000

Travel here 4 times a year. No issues at all with treatment but car parking is diabolical. Was better when you had to pay because people parked, got treated and left giving a much quicker turnaround and space availability. As a hospital though - first class.

Can not be more thankful for the superb level of care I received.

Spire Murrayfield Hospital

122 Corstorphine Rd, Edinburgh EH12 6UD, UK – 0131 334 0363

Just had microdisctomy at the weekend, friendly helpful staff, made To feel very comfortable and welcome, Home now on the road to recovery.

This is not a review as I have never needed to use the clinics services but I have an observation. Ms Ross who gave a one star and a complained did the same on the Edinburgh Clinic site. I don't know if a pinch of salt is a prescription drug but readers should take one when reading that review.

The Edinburgh Clinic

40 Colinton Rd, Edinburgh EH10 5BT, UK – 0131 447 2340

It was my first visit to the Edinburgh Clinic and everyone was welcoming and efficient. The staff were all very helpful. I was put at my ease straight away and didn't have to wait long before being seen. A good experience.

Have to tell you how delighted we are with the Edinburgh Clinic. After months of persuasion, we convinced Dad to have an old injury (that's been causing him great pain for years) to be dealt with privately. From the first point of contacting the clinic, we have received an excellent service and Dad was indeed treated like a king! I think he has actually enjoyed the whole experience - a big thank you Dr Errington.

My first experience in this church was great; the people are loving and live as one community of Christians which reminds me of the need to be loved and accepted. This gave me the courage to be part of this community and willing to help out as time permits. A lovely and beautiful community of Christians. Everyone is welcome here.

Hi, i have used colinton skips many times over the years and always found them very professional

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Cool Jade

Downie Grove, Edinburgh EH12 7AU, UK – 0131 334 3823

Delicious food and wine when we were here. We came for a family birthday and all 3 generations had a great time. The staff were lovely with the kids, who were given kids chopsticks which they had great fun with. We ordered a bit too much but the staff had tried to talk us out of it. I'll definitely be back.

The staff is lovely and very helpful, food is delicious and comes quick so I cannot recommend enough a visit on Cool Jade if you are around Edinburgh .

Nursery and Preschools

Flying Colours Nursery Barnton

534 Queensferry Rd, Edinburgh EH4 6EE, UK – 0131 574 2679

We feel very blessed that our girl is able to attend such a great nursery. The love, care and consideration shown to her by the staff is second to none and it is very comforting to us that she is well cared for. Our little girl loves going there and actively asks to go, showing how much she enjoys it. The facilities are also excellent and we are very impressed by the level of attention to cleanliness, indoor and outdoor play and nutrition.

Fantastic nursery - my daughter has settled in so well, she always comes home stimulated and content - I am very happy with all aspects of care given, such a lovely friendly environment - all staff are very approachable, helpful & attentive to the children and parents needs, indoor and outdoor facilities are fantastic , Wall displays are ever changing with the children's art work and plenty to take home to. I would highly recommend this nursery to parents in the surrounding areas. The nursery is very professionally run , The communication with parents is excellent ,Such a lovely happy atmosphere! 10/10

Flora Stevenson Primary School

175 Comely Bank Rd, Edinburgh EH4 1BG, UK – 0131 332 1604

Summary: Lovely primary school with friendly staff and an adjoining music school. Flora's is a busy council-run primary school serving the Stockbridge and Comely Bank communities from its Victorian facilities and newer extensions. Of note is the attached Edinburgh Music School where gifted children from across the city benefit from a specialist musical programme in addition to their normal curriculum. Also, the school hosts many after-school activities and a sizeable after-school club, so provides significant support for working parents. However, not all is perfect. The class sizes are large, the staff are clearly very busy and, worst of all, the playground is incredibly small given the number of children it serves. But, that aside, it's a happy school with superb staff, and both of my children have really enjoyed their education there over the years. Also of note is the school's very close relationship with nearby Broughton High School, which ensures children transitioning to secondary education are fully supported at all times.

I used to go its a lot better than bruntsfielf

Public & Preparatory Schools

St George's School for Girls

Garscube Terrace, Murrayfield, Edinburgh EH12 6BG, UK – 0131 311 8000

I moved from Erskine Stewart's Melville School in P7 across to St. George's. The experience I had at this school was amazing. I loved coming to this school! The classes are a lot smaller this means that you get more attention from the teachers. All the teachers are so dedicated and passionate about their job and their subjects this in return made us want to learn more and do well in our exams. The EDUCATION, the SUPPORT, and the OPPORTUNITIES at this school are EXCELLENT.

Great school, good education. The food is great, the only problem was that you had to pay for all of the uniform.

The Mary Erskine School

Ravelston Dykes Rd, Edinburgh EH4 3NT, UK – 0131 347 5700

this school is amazing

The Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School

Edinburgh EH10, UK – 0131 337 3410

The care for the children and attention to detail that the staff give is outstanding. I wish there were more schools like this one. The children are happy probably because they are allowed to be the individuals that they are. I love the fact school starting age is 6 or 7 in steiner schools. Research shows that this is better for the children's self esteem and also for academic achievement as children learn most from playing before the age of 7. I have met many wonderful people through the school. It is a lovely community of families.
